The fifth "Studio 138 " ( last issue ), annual booklet as a part of activities of seminar has been published in March 2025. Following the fourth issue, "Voluntary Collective Activities of Abstract Expressionists Part 5 - The 9th Street Exhibition" (circa 1951) by Tetsuya Oshima The exhibition is serialized in the magazine. Although American Abstract Expressionist paintings can now be seen in museums around the world, it can be read that at that time, in New York City, the artists were actively engaged in voluntary exhibition activities and heated discussions in an effort to create a new style of art. There are many things we can learn and reinterpret from the painters of the modern and contemporary Western world, such as their awareness of issues and the nature of their collective activities. The final issue of Studio 138 contains heartfelt essays by all the members of Studio 138, including their own theories on production, painting, and art, poems, and images of their works, as befits the final issue.

In this issue, I myself have published an essay titled “Shading and Color in Painting - mainly on My Own Works”, in which I describe various thoughts I had in the process of creating ink and color paintings I have been working on for the past year. (124 pages, full color edition)

The art study group Studio 138, which was founded in 2019 and began its activities in 2020, disbanded with the publication of its fifth issue in March 2025 as planned at the time of its founding. We hope that the discussions in the study group and our experiences in writing will be reflected in our creative activities in the future.

We would like to thank all of you who have visited our study group many times to exchange ideas, participated in Zoom, picked up and read our annual booklet “Studio 138” or took an interest of the web version, and supported our study group “Studio 138”.
